Munster Village

Munster Village

Sandwiched between the River Thames and Bishop’s Park to the west and south, Fulham Broadway to the east, and Hammersmith to the north, Munster Village is neatly tucked away from the hustle and bustle of greater London.

Centred on Munster Road, there are numerous Victorian and Edwardian houses and period conversions on offer. Within this affluent and upbeat village there is a great selection of shops, cafes and restaurants to entice the locals and visitors.

Originally recorded in 1397 as Mustew, believed to mean ‘meeting place’, this charming residential patch was entirely agricultural, with market gardens covering the land and only a few small cottages and large country houses in situ.

In 1880 when the railway opened at Parsons Green and Putney Bridge, the land became valuable and some was even sold in the years before the station was unveiled. Rows of terraced houses were built for the City workers travelling into the Capital and it remains just as popular today with professionals heading into town. Interestingly, the builders had a unique trademark, botanic leaves and flowers were engraved into the relief plasterwork around windows and doors – probably as a reference to the area’s past and many examples remain today.

St Johns Walham Green Church of England Primary, St Thomas of Canterbury Catholic Primary and All Saints Primary School all received “good” Ofsted reports. Secondary Schools in the area such as The Bridge AP Academy received an “outstanding” report with Sinclair House School receiving a credible “good” rating.
